Look a post! And late as usual!
I’ve heard the announcement for a Code Geass sequel of sorts coming soon in 2010 (sources: RC and ANN) and I have to say that I’m excited. Despite the lack of re-watch value, the show’s “plot twists” and train wreck quality (especially R2) made for a fun roller-coaster anime ride. It also continues to reinforce the joke that someone isn’t dead until Sunrise says so.
However we may not see a Lelouch resurrection as it seems this new part of the story is devoid of Lelouch and everyone from R1 and R2 since it takes place in a different time, although in the same universe. (source: ANN) The new story is from the mind of Goro Taniguchi, director and co-creator of the Code Geass’ first season. I can’t say that I’m confident Geass without Lelouch will really work out that well. I mean the show was basically an exposition on Lelouch’s character from day one.
Reminds me of how Lodoss was relaunched with Spark as the main character rather than Parn, and Spark’s suckiness made the original Lodoss far superior than the remake/update/whatever it was. However if new Code Geass show retains its unpredictability and silliness, I think I could buy into it. I’m going to hold off on judging Renya (the new protagonist, who I should mention throws shuriken stars as a weapon), but I’m cautiously optimistic overall.
So going off-topic, I noticed when reading about Code Geass that Moyashimon’s manga is getting a live-action adaptation sometime in 2010 and it will appear on Fuji TV’s Noitamina timeslot. (source: ANN) This is the same block of programming that brought us the Moyashimon anime, Eden of the East, Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, and currently Kuuchuu Buranko. I’ve only sampled a bit of Moyashimon, but I can say that it’s much more than a boring lesson about bacteria in our world. The characters look interesting and the show seems as much about character interaction as germs. Plus the female cast were a very attractive bunch. I am also looking forward to checking this out (after I finish the anime at least).
